A chill settles into my bones as we duck our heads into cells and wander down dark corridors, but it’s got nothing to do with the cold air and everything to do with the feel of eyes on us as we explore Psycho Alley.

The adrenaline rush has me on a high, and for a little while, I forget all about being a Belladonna. I forget the very important reason why I’m here, and that I definitely shouldn’t be sneaking around an abandoned building with Easton, and instead, I just let myself enjoy it.

The interior appears to be two levels tall, with red and brown bars stacked haphazardly on top of one another. A simple, spiral staircase connects one floor to the next, and there’s only a three-foot pathway between the wall and the cells, meaning my shoulder brushes against the dirty wall with every step. Ambient moonlight trickles in through the barred windows. That, combined with the light of Easton’s flashlight, provides the only illumination in the dank building.

“Stay here,” Easton directs as we reach the far end of the third-floor corridor.

“Why?” I question with an arched brow. “Planning on jumping out and scaring me? Because if so, you should probably know my reflex move is a dick punch.”

Instead of looking affronted, Easton smirks like an idiot. “You been thinking about my dick this whole time, baby?”

“Oh god, please tell me that’s not what you had planned to show me?” I ask, waving towards his groin.

“Trust me, turtle dove, there’s going to be plenty of time for you to get acquainted with my crotch rocket.” He winks flirtatiously. “No need to jump into the deep end tonight.”

All I can do is roll my eyes, even as a fluttery sensation takes flight in my stomach and heat blooms in my core.

“You’ll stay right there, right?” he asks, waiting until I diligently nod before slipping into the cell.

He rustles about inside, and just when I’m about to call out and ask what he’s doing, he pops his head out.

“Okay, you can come in now.”

There’s a goofy-ass grin on his face, and I arch a brow in his direction as I cautiously step into the room.

My face goes slack, and I pause in the doorway as I take in the pillar candles spread out all over the cement floor and along the sill of the narrow, barred window. In the center of the room, a blanket has been spread out.

“What is all this?” I croak, unable to look away from the scene before me.

Instead of answering, Easton simply slips his hand into mine and leads me over to the blanket. Folding himself onto it, he pats the space beside him, and mechanically, I sit.

I can feel his eyes boring into the side of my head as I survey the room, still unable to wrap my head around the fact that he did all of this for me. I mean, I’m not exactly a romantic, candlelit-date girl—although as my eyes drift over the nail
